The Chicago Ensemble continues its 33rd season with an intriguing program for voice, winds and strings, wide-ranging selection of eight works from three centuries of music.The February program will begin with several arias from Bach’s cantatas, for soprano, mezzo-soprano, flute and piano. Other works for voice and ensemble  include the memorable aria, "Parto! Ma tu ben mio," from Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito; Copland’s delicate As It Fell Upon a Day (1923), based on an Elizabethan text, for soprano, flute and clarinet; Seiber’s witty Drei Morgenstern Lieder (1929) for mezzo-soprano and clarinet; Schubert’s melancholy Der Hirt auf dem Felsen, D.965, for soprano, clarinet and piano; melodic Mendelssohn duets for soprano, mezzo-soprano and piano; and Songs of the Sephardic Jews, sophisticated compositions derived from medieval Spanish and Portuguese Jewish melodies and arranged by Manuel Valls and Léon Algazi for soprano, mezzo-soprano, flute, clarinet and piano.
 
Instrumental works in the February program will be Roussel’s modal Joueurs de Flûte, op. 27 (1924), for flute and piano and four expressionistic pieces by Berg for clarinet and piano (op. 5, 1913).
 
Ensemble members Michelle Areyzaga, soprano; Stacy Eckert, mezzo-soprano; Susan Levitin, flute; Elizandro Garcia-Montoya, clarinet; and Gerald Rizzer, piano/artistic director, will perform.
